Manilas own Dennis Marasigan directed and co-wrote the screenplay, and it gives us a compassionate and honest portrayal of the city during that period. The film was a logistical nightmare to produce. It had a tight shooting schedule (85 shooting days, including a few in the actual Manila Film Center) and a completely willing moviegoing audience (the Film Evaluation Board even gave it a clear 18-year certification). It may not make a whole lot of sense, but Dekada 70 feels like a real film. A remarkable accomplishment.
